The War Related Injury and Illness Study Center (WRIISC) functions as a second opinion resource for the VHA and veterans are flown in from across the nation to be seen. The WRIISC neuropsychologist is part of a multidisciplinary team and provides neuropsychological and other psychological evaluations ranging from screening evaluations, limited focal evaluations and complete neuropsychological batteries for veterans enrolled in the WRIISC-DC program. The incumbent neuropsychologist supervises psychology interns, externs and two post-doctoral fellows interested in specialized training in neuropsychological assessment, research, and therapeutic work with individuals with a wide variety of cognitive difficulties. The WRIISC-DC is co-located with the Neurology Department at the DCVAMC and many research opportunities exist. The incumbent will also be expected to participate and generate relevant research projects, which comes along with protected research time.
