Laulima Government Solutions has a potential opportunity for a Research Assistant to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.

The Research Assistant will implement the clinical research proposal, "Uncovering Latent Deficiencies Due to Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) by Using Normobaric Hypoxic Stress."

DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Involves working closely with the senior researchers on all aspects relevant to the project, including the development of research strategies, experimental designs, protocols, test plans, instrumentation, instrumentation calibration, software (e.g. MATLAB), implementation of the project with human subjects, data collection and analysis, and scientific reporting of findings.
- This position is suitable for a junior scientist who has completed his/her doctorate and seeks participation in a major cutting-edge behavioral neuroscience project.
- The position offers a balance between performing activities already specified within the research proposal and using the experience gained from implementing the research proposal to develop additional proposals to further refine the findings and eventually develop a prototype of a clinically-feasible "brain stress test."
- Translate research proposal into research protocol.
- Participate with regulatory personnel in obtaining IRB approval.
- Establish and maintain all visual scanning assessment devices.
- Establish and maintain all cognitive assessment materials.
- Set up and maintain database of results of experimental procedures.
- Data analysis.
- Assist senior investigators to prepare scientific reports and papers.
- Administer experimental procedures to subjects.
- Implement all phases of the IRB-approved subject recruitment and consent of subjects.
- Design and maintain appropriate record-keeping of consent and research administrative items, including Regulatory Binder, research records and study files.
- Maintain fidelity of data collection, accurate record-keeping, precise implementation of experimental procedures.
- With Principal Investigators, design next phases of research projects to build upon and refine results of existing project.
- As data are analyzed and findings identified, identify additional research and technology development in order to facilitate widespread availability of results, procedures, and practices identified in the present study.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Required Education: PhD in experimental or physiological psychology with a strong neuroscience component; applicant ideally will have completed a doctoral dissertation combining neurobehavioral with neurophysiological focus; alternatively, applicant may have a PhD in neurobiology or neuroscience, with strong experience in neurobehavioral correlates of physiologic and biologic factors, especially those related to the neural basis of vision and control of eye movement.
- Required Experience: Must have experience and skill in implementing complex human neuroscience research activities within a military medical environment.
- Experience in cognitive and neurobehavioral correlates of physiologic and biologic factors, especially those related to sensory/perceptual functions such as the neural basis of vision and control of eye movement.
- Since the position involves administration of psychological and physiological measures, procedures, and tests with human subjects, applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with military service members, study participants, and clinical and research team members. Direct experience conducting neuroscience research with military personnel with dual-diagnosis mTBI/psychiatric diagnoses in a clinical treatment setting such as NICoE.
- Preferred Experience: Experience in conducting statistical analyses of psychophysical data is preferred.
