Job Description POSITION SUMMARY
The Neuropsychologist works integrally within and with the organization’s treatment teams and in conducting inpatient and outpatient neuropsychological evaluations. Primary duties include necessary assessment of emotional/psychological issues and cognitive functioning, individual counseling/therapy, family education/counseling, and consultation with the team, particularly as to emotional/psychological, and behavioral, adjustment and issues/difficulties. Primary outpatient duties will encompass conducting neuropsychological evaluations. The Neuropsychologist provides clinical supervision to the Rehabilitation Counselor. The Neuropsychologist will evaluate the neuropsychological functioning of persons served. Based on appropriate cognitive testing, behavioral observations, and personal interaction, he/she will assist rehabilitation team members in the treatment and development of a comprehensive rehabilitation treatment plan that maximizes the rehabilitation potential of the person served. The Neuropsychologist will take the lead in developing and evaluating behavior interventions to address the maladaptive behaviors of the person served. He/she will be a resource to team members on behavioral issues impacting the ability of persons served to fully participate in their rehabilitation program. The Neuropsychologist will be instrumental in educating persons served, families, and staff about the brain, brain functioning, and the impact that an individual’s brain injury will have on his/her life and rehabilitation plan. The neuropsychologist will engage in professional presentations in the community as assigned. The neuropsychologist will engage in On With Life research collaboration activities as assigned.

Quality - To ensure that the On With Life at Ankeny service program provides neuropsychological services in a manner that meets or exceeds the needs and expectations of On With Life’s stakeholders as measured by: 1. Internal and external satisfaction surveys conducted with staff, founders, persons served/families, and referral sources; 2. The program’s compliance with State and Federal skilled nursing facility (SNF) regulations related to his/her areas of responsibility, as measured by State and Federal licensure/certification surveys; 3. Compliance with CARF accreditation standards related to his/her area of responsibility, as measured by accreditation survey.

Quantity - To ensure that the On With Life service program meets and/or exceeds the rehabilitation needs and expectations of persons served. To maintain the highest productivity level as possible of direct contact with person served, monthly conferences, initial evaluations, counseling, education, testing and therapy session collaborations with other members of the rehabilitation team and as to outpatient neuropsychological evaluation productivity requirements. In addition to these internal measures, the program’s compliance with licensure and accreditation requirements, as determined by outside surveys, will also serve as performance measures.



Mission - To provide the guidance necessary to ensure that the On With Life service programs live the Mission and stay true to core values and purpose. This is measured by the ability to fulfill the job responsibilities in a manner that allows the program to meet the needs and expectations of its stakeholders and moves the program close to its preferred future. A variety of tools will be used to objectively evaluate performance including satisfactions surveys, personal development plans, accreditation and licensure/certification surveys, C.Q.I. forms and data, peer reviews, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS FOR ALL ON WITH LIFE POSITIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION

· Serves as a resource for all On With Life programs and rehabilitation teams in the development of appropriate assessment, treatment/intervention, and rehabilitation programming.
· Observes, interacts, and participates in conferences, rounds sessions and treatment sessions with persons served throughout the individualized rehabilitation program and makes recommendations to tailor programming to meet individual needs.
· Provides direct services to persons served as appropriate to address cognitive deficits, counseling needs, awareness training, sexuality education, substance abuse, and other issues pertinent to the rehabilitation program.
· Provides clinical supervision to the Rehabilitation Counselor.
· Provides ongoing education to persons served and families in individual and group sessions and at rounds and conferences.
· Provides counseling services to family members of persons served to help them cope with the ramifications of their loved ones’ difficulties, as well as to establish realistic expectations, e.g., of recovery and progress.
· Oversees development of behavior management plans designed to address specific problematic behaviors such as physical or verbal aggression, agitation, elopement risk, etc. Provides guidance to all staff relative to protocols for treatment and contributes to procedures governing this area.
· As appropriate, administers battery of psychometric/neuropsychological testing in order to identify rehabilitation potential, appropriate rehabilitation goals, and individual strengths and needs, and to establish a neuropsychological baseline, with formal documentation as professionally appropriate. Psychometric testing will be determined to be appropriate with team input.
· Consults with the Admissions Committee as requested, screening referral information, contacting referral sources, developing pre-admission profiles of persons served, and when appropriate, personally assessing referred individuals.
· Attends professional meetings and conferences, keeping abreast of the current trends and movements in the fields of brain injury rehabilitation and neuropsychological services and shares information with the clinical staff.
· Actively participates in CQI process and presentations.
· Analyzes clinical information relative to outcomes, admission, discharge, follow?up information, and other statistical variables deemed necessary for quality improvement, accreditation, and licensing purposes.
· Maintains confidentiality of persons served, employees and other facility business information.
· Serves as contact person for research projects.
· Leads the OWL Outpatient Neuropsychological Services / CARF-Accredited Independent Evaluation Program.
· Maintains regular and predictable attendance in accordance with company policy and departmental call-in requirements.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
· Current Iowa Psychology license.
· Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology, preferably with an emphasis in the area of Neuropsychology.
· A minimum of one year clinical experience at the post-doctoral level, preferably in a brain injury rehabilitation environment.
· Willingness to maintain membership in the Brain Injury Association of Iowa.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to read, write and speak English at least at a 12th grade level.
· Ability to write and speak in a clear, understandable, and professional manner.
· Ability to communicate directly by electronic or audio means in an understandable manner with persons served, families, professionals, and outside agencies.
· Ability to travel for conferences, meetings, and public relations purposes.
· Ability to clearly visualize items up close, in the distance, and on the periphery. Be able to visually focus, distinguish colors, and determine depth.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
· Serves primarily at On With Life, 715 S.W. Ankeny Road, Ankeny, Iowa, with occasional travel for consultation to On With Life at Glenwood, and for professional meetings, public presentations, and continuing education purposes.
· May be required to work with individuals who are confused, agitated and/or verbally/physically combative.
