Position NIDA T32 Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Neuropsychology
Location San Diego, CA
Job Description "Training in Research on Addictions in Interdisciplinary NeuroAIDS"

HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program (HNRP)
Department of Psychiatry, University of California, San Diego

The University of California at San Diego (UCSD) Department of Psychiatry announces the availability of postdoctoral research fellowship in neuropsychology. The fellowship is funded by a NIDA training grant (T32-DA031098) led by Dr. Robert K. Heaton and his colleagues at the UCSD HIV Neurobehavioral Research Program (HNRP) entitled "Training in Research in Addictions in Interdisciplinary NeuroAIDS (TRAIN)". The fellowship emphasizes research training in neurocognitive and everyday functioning outcomes (e.g., medication adherence, driving, technology-based tools for assessing and remediating neurocognitive and functional impairment) in addictions and HIV infection. Substances of interest include methamphetamine, cannabis, and alcohol. The fellow will engage in an individualized, mentored clinical research training program that will include structured didactics. UCSD HNRP is directed by Igor Grant, M.D., and includes a multidisciplinary research team with experts in neuropsychology, neuroimaging, psychiatry, infectious disease, neurosciences, neuropathology, and neurocognitive interventions. There are also dedicated units in data management and information systems, biostatistics, and participant outreach. The HNRP currently supports dozens of federally- and state-funded grants, and provides leadership for both national and international neuroAIDS research. Depending upon the fellow's interests, additional research opportunities may be available in the treatment of HIV associated neurocognitive disorders, as well as neuroAIDS in resource-limited settings, underserved populations, and comorbidities/cofactors (e.g., mental illness, aging). The fellowship meets the requirements for clinical licensure in CA and the fellow will have an opportunity for up to 10% clinical training under the supervision of Marc A. Norman, Ph.D., ABPP-CN. Demonstrated interest/productivity in neuropsychological research is required. Previous research experience in addictions and HIV infection is desired, but not necessary. The University of California San Diego is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Potential fellowship applicants who wish to learn more about the fellowship may contact Dr. Heaton via email (rheaton@ucsd.edu; please cc train@ucsd.edu). The formal application will require a letter of interest, curriculum vita and three letters of reference and should be sent directly to Dr. Heaton.
