Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) is seeking qualified Psychologists and Neuropsychologists to work in our nationally recognized Rehabilitation Center which specializes in the physical rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord, burn, and acquired brain injuries. The psychologist is an active member of the interdisciplinary team and responsible for providing comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological services, including diagnosis, assessment, education and psychotherapeutic interventions and treatments in a hospital inpatient setting.
Essential Functions:
- Performs psychological, neuropsychological and/or neurobehavioral evaluations of adult and pediatric patients with actual and suspected neurological, medical and psychiatric disorders.
- Provides individual and/or group treatment for patients and families, specific to neuropsychological issues, including psychotherapy and/or family therapy where indicated.
- Develops and implements behavior management programs to assist patients, families, and staff in obtaining maximum benefit from the rehabilitation treatment program.
- Participates in formal weekly medical review conferences, as part of the rehabilitation team, and in informal consultation with physicians and other staff, aimed at addressing the neurobehavioral sequelae of various central nervous system disorders and illnesses in order that treatment programs may be adapted appropriately to the individual patient’s needs and abilities.
- Participates in family education to explain the neurobehavioral sequelae consequent to severe neurologic injury or illness and to assist in coping skill development for adaptive lifestyle changes..
- May act in consultation with Psychiatry and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians to develop appropriate triage and treatment programs for patients with neurologic injury, medical conditions, and psychiatric needs.
- Conducts capacity evaluations when requested by physician.
- Prepares complete written assessment reports that may serve as legal documents.
The ideal candidate will have a:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA/CPA approved program in Clinical Psychology
Completion of a 1 year APA approved internship program
Completion of 1 or 2 year postdoctoral fellowship.
Experience working in a physical rehabilitation/medical/hospital environment with an interdisciplinary team is preferred.
Board certified or eligible for board certification in Rehabilitation Psychology or Neuropsychology is preferred.
Current valid license to practice in the State of California.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a county operated facility, located in San Jose, California. The hospital is under the direction of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. The facility is licensed for 574 beds with full comprehensive acute care services. Specialty care programs include: Level I Trauma Center, Certified Burn Center, Neonatal Intensive Care, Primary Stroke Center, and Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation.
