Job Description Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive college of The Pennsylvania State University, one of the largest and most widely-recognized institutions in the nation, invites applications for an academic administrative leader with a collaborative, creative vision for the position, Director, School of Behavioral Sciences and Education. The preferred candidate will possess an earned doctorate, outstanding scholarly research in a discipline represented within the School, significant and proven experience in academic leadership in an interdisciplinary unit, and a record of excellence in teaching. The School seeks an administrator with an inspiring vision, excellent communication skills, exceptional financial acumen, an understanding of the complexities of a multi-campus, land-grant university, a commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion, and a successful record of faculty development, including relevant and proven experience with, and responsibility for, the promotion and tenure process for an academic unit. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven record of research and interdisciplinary collaboration, experience developing new programs, experience managing institutes or centers and leadership in both behavioral sciences and education. The Director will set the standards for intellectual engagement and promote high quality teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will have a record of achievement that qualifies him or her for appointment as a full professor with tenure in the college. Preferred starting date is July 1, 2019. The School of Behavioral Sciences and Education is one of Penn State Harrisburg's five academic schools. The School offers undergraduate majors in Elementary Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Kinesiology, Nursing, Psychology, Secondary Education Social Studies, and Sociology. Graduate programs include Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis, Applied Clinical Psychology and Community Psychology and Social Change, Masters of Education in Health Education, Literacy Education, and Teaching and Curriculum, and a Doctorate of Education in Lifelong Learning and Adult Education. The School also has two thriving institutes: Capital Area Early Childhood Training Institute (CAECTI) and Capital Area Institute for Mathematics and Science (CAIMS). The School has approximately 50 full-time faculty members and also delivers general education requirements/electives to students enrolled in all five academic Schools. Penn State Harrisburg is located in Middletown, near the city of Harrisburg, the state capital of Pennsylvania. The College is easily accessible via interstate and rail routes from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York.
