Rehabilitation Psychologist
Position Description:
The Department of Rehabilitation Neuropsychology at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana is recruiting for a full-time Rehabilitation Psychologist to work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team and provide clinical services to in- and outpatients, including diagnostic/assessment services, treatment services, and education to patients, families of patients, and staff.
Although this is first and foremost a clinical position, there are some teaching (e.g., participating in yearly training for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residents, supervising practicum students, presenting at local and national conferences) and research opportunities available. All staff are encouraged to pursue specific professional interests that are in line with RHI's mission and values and enhance the organization's service delivery.
Board certification or ultimate pursuit of board certification is encouraged and supported by the hospital and department but is not required.
Necessary Education and Experience:
- Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA- or CPA- accredited program
- Successfully completed fellowship training in Rehabilitation Psychology
- Indiana license or license eligible
About the Hospital:
The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI) is composed of the largest inpatient rehabilitation facility in the Indianapolis area and two outpatient treatment locations. RHI provides quality inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to an extensive variety of neurological and medical populations, including individuals with traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular accidents, neoplasms, neurodegenerative disorders, spinal cord injuries, organ transplants, and many other conditions. We serve patients age 16 and older.
RHI, in partnership with Indiana University and IU Health, is one of only 16 centers in the country part of the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems (TBIMS), and the only one in Indiana. RHI is a CARF-certified rehabilitation center.
The hospital administration understands the value of neuropsychological services and is extremely supportive of the activities of the department as a whole (in fact, the CEO is a clinical neuropsychologist by training).

About the Department:
The Rehabilitation Neuropsychology Department has been in existence for nearly 20 years and is composed of six doctoral-level staff members from diverse backgrounds who possess a wide range of rehabilitation interests and experiences; five full-time psychometrists; 2-3 part time psychometrists; and full-time support staff dedicated to office management services (scheduling, prior authorizing, billing). Additionally, we have hospital approval to resume our post-doctoral training program (paused during the pandemic), and will hopefully be able to add a fellow by the 2023 training cycle.
Services we provide include: consultation to our inpatient rehabilitation hospital; outpatient diagnostic/assessment and treatment services for patients referred from PMR, neurology, gerontology, neurosurgery, oncology, primary care, Vocational Rehabilitation, and many other sources; concussion management services; an outpatient multidisciplinary treatment program for individuals with acquired brain injury; and outpatient brain injury individual and group treatments. We are also in the process of developing assessment and treatment services for Spanish-speaking individuals who have known or suspected neurological conditions.
The department is nationally and internationally recognized for developing innovative services for our patients (e.g., the Brain Injury Coping Skills group, Couples CARE Intervention group; Resource Facilitation services for individuals with acquired brain injury who are involved with Vocational Rehabilitation, the ACRM Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual)
Members of the department are salaried employees of the hospital and adjunct clinical professors in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of Indiana University Medical Center.
The work atmosphere within the department is extremely friendly, collegial and mutually supportive. The department enjoys strong relationships with all other hospital staff, including administration, therapy, nursing, and physicians.
Although we always want to ensure our department and services are financially viable, the quality and appropriateness of the care and services we provide to our patients and their families is prioritized over strict productivity requirements.
